Norbury High celebrated Number Day on Friday 2nd February 2024. The annual nationwide NSPCC fundraiser offers students an opportunity to develop and improve their numeracy skills so has long been a fixture on the academy’s calendar.
The Norbury High Maths Department set up a number of events in the run-up to the day itself. All the year 8 students, as well as around 40 year 9 students, took part in a maths ‘escape room’ challenge. The winning team did exceptionally well, completing the trial in 38 minutes and nine seconds.
Year 9 and 10 students at the secondary academy developed ideas for fundraising stalls using the BBC’s Dragons’ Den for inspiration and worked hard to turn their initial £20 investments into winning proposals. Several enterprising teams set up stalls selling samosas, cake pops and other snacks with one group developing a games stand where customers had the opportunity to win prizes. Other activities included a puzzle raffle and a times tables competition.
More than £550 was raised by Norbury High’s staff and students for the NSPCC to help them provide vital support to children and young adults across the UK.
