Norbury High student Taeanna after winning The Harlequins Cup Norbury High student Taeanna Hanson-Ellis helped her side clinch victory in the under-16 girls’ rugby final of The Harlequins Cup on Tuesday 23rd April.

Taeanna, a year 11 student at our secondary academy, was part of a joint Guildfordians/Streatham and Croydon side that beat a strong Wimbledon/Old Ruts Barbarians XV. Taeanna, who plays for Guildfordians, was involved for the full 80 minutes.

The game, which kicked off at 20.00, was a tight one. After 60 minutes, Taeanna’s side were winning by just two points with the score 26-24. In the final quarter of the match, however, Guildfordians/Streatham and Croydon managed to increase their lead, scoring and converting two more tries to claim a 40-24 victory.

The Harlequins Cup is a community rugby club competition for 15-a-side youth teams based in and around Surrey. Boys’, girls’ and women’s teams compete across a range of age group fixtures with the winners progressing to the finals at Harlequins’ ground The Stoop in Twickenham.
